Story
On April 26th 2015, I will be pushing my body to its physical (and probably mental) limit by running the Virgin London Marathon.
As an avid sportswoman, I've been keen to do a marathon for a while, and when I heard that I could run for MACS, I jumped at the chance.
The Micro & Anophthalmic Children's Society (MACS) is the UK's national charity for children born without eyes or with underdeveloped eyes.
Before the charity was set up in 1993, parents of MACS children has little to no access to information or support and most had never met another family whose child was affected.
Now, the charity is accessed by over 500 families across the UK, and some who are further afield.
MACS supports families at each stage of their journey, by providing peer support, financial aid and equipment to make day to day living a little easier. Additionally, they help to enable a child to take part in a life changing, or even an everyday activity that most of us take for granted.
The work of the charity can help these children to develop their skills, share their experiences and better understand their condition.
By running this marathon, I'm hoping to raise vital funds to enable the charity to continue supporting families of children with MACS, as well as widen public awareness of these conditions.
Whether you can spare £1 or £100, every penny is much appreciated, so please donate!
Many thanks,
Shivali
