Story
We have perhaps become over-familiar with the phrase God bless. We say were blessed to have good neighbours, a new car, a nice house. The #blessed tag on social media has been linked to humble bragging. But how often do we count more basic blessings like having a toilet and clean water on tap everyday wonders that millions of people still don't have? In St Johns Church Hall we are blessed to have toilets and clean water, but they are very old, not easy to clean, very narrow cubicles from the old school that used to be in the hall, and in desperate need of refurbishment for the comfort and dignity of all who use them from the local community groups, our congregation, and all others who we welcome into church and the hall.Work is on-going on this refurbishment and we would like to twin all our new loos to help those less fortunate than ourselves; and for that we would like to appeal for your help.
So what am I doing to earn your sponsorship? I'm following Sara's fine example, in my own way. My personal trainer has drawn up a special programme for me so you can be sure it's challenging but within my capabilities. I normally train three times a week and change my programme every 2 weeks, but I plan to stick with this one for three weeks.
After my warm-up (30 calorie row and 30 press-ups) I have 5 rounds of 5 squats, 5 sumo squats and one squat hold, making 55 squats, followed by 3 timed rounds of thrusters (I manage about 11) and planks (I know that's not a squat, but every toilet needs a door!). That's an extra 33 squats, so 88 per session. Over 9 sessions I hope to complete 802 squats.
I shall be working with a 4kg kettlebell throughout so will have lifted 3208kg. So I invite you to 'spend a penny' and sponsor me for a penny a squat, or per kg if you're feeling really generous. Or why not join us, on your own or with a group of friends, and come up with your own toilet-themed challenge to help us reach our target and have some fun along the way.
