Story
For those of you that know me well, you will know I only run when I am being chased or when I'm about to miss a bus... which is why I don't use buses anymore. So bearing that in mind the idea of me running 26.2 miles is frankly hilarious. That being said...
When I was 16 years old my parents broke the news to me that my Mum had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. At that age you still think your parents are invincible and I didn't really know what it meant at the time, but I would learn in the years to come.
For those that don't know, MS is the result of damage to the myelin - a protective sheath surrounding nerve fibres of the central nervous system. When myelin is damaged this interferes with messages from the brain and other parts of the body.
MS has gradually slowed my Mum down and restricted her movement but it hasn't stopped her one bit from being a great mum and one of my best friends.
She's given so much to me and my brothers and now I want to give something back. So if I have to drag myself on my hands and knees over that bloody finish line, I will.
I know times aren't easy for everyone but even the smallest amount will be appreciated and if any of you fancy coming along to Brighton to cheer me on / mock me that would also be really great... 'cause I'll need it. (“RUN SHEILA, RUN” signs optional)
And for those that fear it may be a wasted donation due to my characteristic laziness, I am actually already in training and on target. So I guess with this page, I now have one more reason to run...your generous donations.
Love love love
Sheila / Sheils / Sheila Lala / She-Dog / Shoehorn or as I'm affectionately known to my Mum, Sheily-Pegs.
