Story
Sharks and rays are some of the ocean's most amazing animals. Present in our seas for 400 million years, they are vital and valuable but also vulnerable. Around a quarter of the 1000 or so species of sharks and rays are considered "threatened", largely due to the impact of unsustainable fisheries. The Shark Trust works tirelessly in the UK and around the World to ensure endangered species of sharks are suitably protected, while also pushing for science-based fisheries management for all species to ensure long term sustainability.
PRIZES LISTED IN PHOTO UPDATES BELOW I've made it to the big three zero birthday! Instead of asking for gifts, I have one thing on my Wish List: The Shark Trust. So I have arranged a fundraising raffle full of awesome prizes for you all to enter. Each £2 You donate on this page will earn you a raffle ticket, please leave your name so that I can contact you if you wish to donate for these tickets.
I have seen documentaries where people have helped boost the population of many fish, rays and other sealife, simply by protecting shark population. They are part of the natural food chain and if any part of that goes unbalanced, then the whole chain is effected. They are worth more than most people realise.
Annually there are only about 6 fatalities by shark attacks a year. There are more fatalities each year from coconuts, choking on food (3000 per year), raw meat (5000 per year), more yearly fatalaties by cows, ladders, vending machines falling on people and 450 people a year die from falling out of bed. There are professional divers that can safely and peacefully swim with all kinds of sharks, through getting to know how to best dive with and understand sharks.

Science has evolved to understand that we don't need cages to dive with sharks. There are shark feeding dives now with professionals. At Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas, in Nassau, no one has died during a shark feeding dive, which have been running for 30 years. There are also no reported cases of a shark killing a human around Nassau Island.
We need to change our view of sharks in the way that media and films like Jaws lead us to believe. Sharks are so much more!
