Story
This Ramadan, I have the honour of working with the Valerie Taylor Trust in Bangladesh by providing specialised wheelchairs for disabled children. The trust has 14 CRPs (Centres for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed) across Bangladesh including Sylhet, Chittagong, Moulvibazar and Dhaka. This is a project that is very close to my heart as it involves helping the forgotten children of Bangladesh. This Ramadan we can make a difference by providing much needed wheelchairs for these children.
Each wheelchair costs £120 and is built by the disabled adult patients at the centre. The wheelchairs would provide much needed mobility for the disabled children as well as transferable skills to the adults who make them. I therefore implore you to please contribute as much or as little as you can as every penny counts! This valuable donation can be included as part of your Zakat.
Further information about the trust:
Valerie Taylor is a British physiotherapist who first arrived in Bangladesh under a contract with the Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) in 1969. She was appalled at the desperate plight of people paralysed by spinal injury or disease and the fact that they were often left to beg or to die. Valerie committed herself to bringing about a change in the situation she saw. It took ten years of persistence but finally in 1979 she opened the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP). In recognition of her unique contribution to disabled people in Bangladesh, Valerie received the ‘Shadhinota Dibosh Podok’ the highest civilian award of the country and in 1993 she was awarded the ‘Order of the British Empire’ (OBE).
Please donate generously this Ramadan to this very worthy cause.
Abu Huraira (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
“Allah said: Spend in charity, O son of Adam, and I will spend on you.”
