Story
In April 2024, I will be taking part in the TCS London Marathon with a purpose that is deeply close to my heart. My aim is to raise vital funds and awareness for people living with epilepsy, a condition that affects over 626,000 individuals in the UK, including more than 50,000 children like my own daughter, Nancy, who is only six years old.
Nancy's journey to diagnosis was challenging and filled with uncertainty. She endured several seizures, leading to initial concerns about meningitis. This led us to her being rushed to hospital, where she experienced reoccurring seizures and was in and out of consciousness. After thorough medical evaluations, including brain scans, a lumbar puncture, and an electroencephalogram (EEG), the diagnosis of epilepsy was confirmed. Now, Nancy must take medicine twice a day and be constantly monitored, and we are unsure of how this condition will impact her life as she grows into her teenage years and adulthood.
This life-changing experience profoundly affected my family, leaving us with countless questions. However, we found immense support through Epilepsy Action, an organisation that has been by our side throughout this journey. Epilepsy Action offers a wide range of advice, information, and practical support services to help people living with epilepsy. They provide valuable resources such as their Freephone helpline, Talk and support groups, Befriending service, and E-learning resources. Moreover, they have been instrumental in providing books and videos that are written in a way that Nancy can understand her condition, which has made a significant impact on her ability to comprehend and cope.
By supporting Epilepsy Action and contributing to the funds I raise during the London Marathon, you will be helping the organisation to continue providing their essential services to even more people living with epilepsy. They play a crucial role in enhancing the lives of those affected by this condition, offering guidance and a sense of community that is invaluable.
Nancy, our little ray of sunshine, lives her life to the
fullest, and I am determined to do everything in my power to ensure she and others like her have access to the support they need. Please join me in this mission by supporting my cause and contributing to this fantastic organization.
