Story
On January 26th at 19:41 & 19:42, I unexpectedly gave birth to our beautiful identical twin girls Scarlett and Ruby.
Their gestation was only 25 weeks + 5 days weighing 908g & 768g.
The hospital staff quickly rallied around and took the girls as soon as they were born to incubate and start life saving treatment. We did not get to see or meet our babies for 4 hours after they were born. We were unable to hold our babies, all we could do was put our hands in the incubator and feel their strength through their grip. The hospital was unable to support the needs of our girls for more than 24 hours due to their gestation. We will forever be grateful to the staff on the labour ward at Conquest Hospital for giving our girls the best start to life and for all the support they gave us.
They were both transferred separately during the night and early hours of the following day to Royal Sussex County Hospital. We spent the rest of the night and early morning wondering how our girls were and if they were still fighting. We finally received the text to confirm both the girls were transferred safely and waiting for us in the TMBU.
It took 11 days for us to hold our babies but when that moment came it was worth all the wait.
But unfortunately 17 days into our journey, Scarlett passed away peacefully in my arms on the afternoon of 12th February and gained her angel wings.
We have received so much support from the staff at TMBU from the start of our journey to date. The staff would not be able to do such an incredible job without the generosity and support of Early Birth Association (EBA). Our journey at the TMBU continues with Ruby but we will forever be grateful for all the love and everything they did for our brave little girl Scarlett.
In Scarlett’s memory we want to raise money for the EBA so her strength will continue fighting for other premature babies.
