Story

Satti (my mum) was diagnosed with type 2 serous endometrial cancer at the back end of the 2017. And following a hysterectomy in Jan 2018, several cycles of chemotherapy and brachytherapy, Satti was given the "all clear" just in time for the birth of her first grandchild - Aris (my son).

Aris was born in Nov 2018 and gave Satti untold happiness and strength which unbeknown to us was pivotal in Satti's fight when we found out the cancer had returned with a sizable tumour in her pelvis in Jan 2019.

As a family we wanted to ensure Satti had every chance of survival. So after researching numerous treatment options, Satti travelled 5,500 miles from London UK to Tijuana Mexico in Feb 2019 for treatment at the CHIPSA Institute. During a 5 week stay at CHIPSA where they used conventional medicine, novel immunotherapy and naturopathy via the Gerson therapy.

In Mar 2019 Satti returned with a tumour that was 70% smaller and full of vigour to beat her cancer. This gave her a renewed ability to dream again by wanting to fulfil a lifetime wish to visit Egypt to see the pyramids. She planned to dance at Aris' 1st birthday, throw the party of the century for her 60th and her son's 40th on their shared birthday and finally celebrate receiving a telegram from the queen for her father-in-laws 100th birthday.

However, given the aggressive nature of Satti's cancer, within 6 weeks of her return, the cancer found its way into her bones and spread further into her pelvis tethering itself onto her kidneys. This caused significant renal complications which required urgent attention after which Satti had no option but have more chemotherapy. In Sep 2019, after 5 months of chemotherapy, the treatment was no longer effective and as a family we tabled the option for Satti to head back to CHIPSA - given that the results were positive first time round. This was by far Satti's toughest decision, does she gamble on an 11,000 mile 3 week round trip or does she spend that time with her family.

Satti eventually decided to give CHIPSA another shot but when she returned in Oct 2019 she didn't come back with the same vigour as she did the 1st time round and instead needed round the clock care from her family.

On Sunday 17th November Satti's health had deteriorated enough to be taken to hospital by ambulance and later died there on Wednesday 20th November. Even though cancer won its battle with Satti, she fought every step of the way with the prayers, love and support of her family, friends and the care provided to her from CHIPSA and in particular everyone at Mount Vernon. Because in Satti's final days, she said "if given the choice, she want's to see out her time at Mount Vernon".

We cannot begin to imagine the physical and mental struggle Satti went through in these months. And despite all her pain and plight, Satti conducted herself with great dignity and integrity at all times. She always found a way to put others ahead of herself, worrying about others even when it was her time to heal.

We wish Satti was still here today. Those who were fortunate enough to know her will miss her hugely. Whether it's her warm smile, her kind hearted selfless acts or her amazing hugs for nieces, nephews and grandchild. These are all memories that will now live on with us all.

In loving memory of Satti, the Bajwa and Hundal family welcome  donations to the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre to help others.
