Your birthday gifts would be great to help us to bring the wildcats back to the wild by donating.  We must act now to save this species from total extinction in Scotland!

The Scottish wildcat is the rarest mammal and the only native cat species surviving in Scotland.  Currently, the only wild population of these rare cats live in the remote Scottish Highlands, but that population is now “functionally extinct”.

This means that captive breeding and reintroductions into the wild is their only hope for the future.

The species disappeared from England and Wales over a century ago because of persecution during a time when all predators, including Wildcats, were considered as vermin.

With your help, we can begin to establish a self-sustaining Wildcat population in areas where they once would have thrived and begin to restore the natural balance in the ecosystem.  To give the Wildcats the best possible chance of recovering their numbers, we need to greatly increase our captive breeding facility here.  As the breeding season for the cats is between January and March, we need to start building this autumn.

All funds raised will help us to build 2 additional breeding enclosures.  Each enclosure will house a breeding pair of cats, which will produce healthy kittens each year for release back into the wild.  This is one part of a long term project to restore these amazing cats to the wild.

We will undertake research into best sites for their reintroduction.  We will ensure the needs and views of local community is taken into full account during this project.

No matter how you can help  every penny raised will make a difference for the future of the Wildcats and I am so grateful for your support.
