Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.
I have been lucky enough to have been given the oppurtunity to take part in an Explorer Scout Expedition to Ghana in 2011. The purpose of the trip is to renovate and improve the facilities of a wing of a hospital called a Mothers' Lodge in the town of Hohoe.
Basically, mothers travel huge distances to this hospital to get their children treated, as it is the only one in quite a large radius. Once they reach the hospital, they generally stay overnight, and the only place to sleep is the mothers lodge. Currently, the rooms are extremely basic. There is a sleeping room, which is sadly, just that. There are no beds, no mosquito nets, no proper windows, so the women end up sleeping on the bare concrete. We will also refurbish the cooking room; at the moment, they are cooking in a pot on the floor.
Hopefully all this will change though, in 2011. Some of the things we will be doing is rendering walls, painting inside and out, replacing woodwork, windows and replacing ceilings. We will also install mattresses, mosquito nets, ceiling fans and electricity etc. And most importantly supplying toilets and showers. This is going to be a challenging project, especially in the 3 weeks we will be there, but i hope you'll agree, an extremely worthwhile one.
I am absolutely delighted to be taking part, and really, really excited with the whole prospect, but I need to raise £1500 as my personal contribution. I am currently working hard with babysitting and bag packing in a local supermarket, but I do plan to organise some bigger events such as a 10k run (when my achilles injury improves) and a 50 mile cycle. I will post these on here, but for now, there is a lot to raise, so I would be very grateful for any donations.
So here's some info on your donation.
