Story
On or around 19 August 2014 I will be embarking on a solo channel swim.
I said on or around as channel swimming is a game of ifs buts and maybes. If the weather is good, the wind in the right direction and the previous swimmer has returned, then it will be on. Had I realised how right I would be ...
Hurricane Bertha arrived leaving the conditions too windy and the seas too angry for an August depart.
On or around 1 October 2014 I will be embarking on a solo channel swim.
Escorted by my trusted pilot Eric Hartley and his boat Pathfinder, I will swim the 22 miles (as the crow flies) from Dover to France. This is done in one swim all the way. If I touch the boat then the swim is over and we would head straight back to England.
Accompanying me will be a group of friends. They will provide me with feeds (drinks when on shore) and snacks to sustain me during the long swim. On land will be "land crew" who will update twitter and facebook and keep every one who may be watching up to date.
It is likely to take me around 15- 18 hours. It will be cold and there will be jelly fish. Fortunately my swimming costume, hat and goggles will provide all the defences I need against the challenges of the English Channel.
I keep a blog my story can be found at the following

I work for the RCN and they have kindly allowed me some time to train for the event.
In turn I agreed that I would work with the RCN Foundation to raise money towards the work that they do.
