By sponsoring me with my cycling you are donating to the 'Above and Beyond' Bristol Hospitals charity. They do amazing work to improve the experience of patients, family and staff in Bristol Hospitals.
'Above and Beyond' fund projects that make a real difference to the people that are cared for in our Bristol hospitals, their families and the amazing staff that treat them. Their fundraisers and donors make it possible for them to fund above & beyond what the NHS can provide. They improve the hospital environment, fund ground breaking research, support the development and training of hospital staff and provide state-of-the-art equipment. I'm sure you will agree a most valid and just cause.
I am a physiotherapist and have worked for the NHS for 10 years, for the last year and a half I have worked at South Bristol Community Hospital on the rehabilitation wards. These wards give patients an opportunity to recover further from surgery, stroke, falls, broken bones and illnesses and allow them to maximise their independance with mobility and functional tasks before returning home. The money raised will go towards improving the service and experience of patients, families and staff on these wards.
I am currently on a 18 month career break and will be combining travelling with improving my knowledge and experience of physiotherapy in other countries and cultures. I will be visiting over 10 countries including India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Madagascar and Australia.
I was very conscious when planning my trip of the large amount of air miles I would accrue and carbon foot print I would be creating. I wanted in a way to make something positive of this and almost balance it out with pedal power as much as possible whilst also raising money for a worthwhile charity. So I decided to set myself a challenge so for every 25 miles I fly on each leg of my trip I will need to cycle a mile at country of destination for example it is 4697 miles to Goa from Heathrow airport London so when I arrive in Goa I will need to cycle 188 miles to balance out my air miles, this will then continue to happen for every leg of my trip.
This will be a big challenge for me especially taking in to account the environments and conditions I will be cycling under, heat, humidity, poor quality roads and potentially poor quality rented bicycles. I will be taking my own helmet and cycle maintenance kit to aid completion of each leg in one piece.
Please sponsor me and regularly check out my just giving page as I will be updating it with information, photographs and sharing the trials and tribulations that meet me on my journey.
Thanks so much for your support
