Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. We decided to the Great Edinburgh Run 10K as it is an excellent charity, very close to Sarah's heart...
In January 2013, my 86 year old Grandad suffered a stroke and was one of 150,000 people in the UK affected this year. Fortunately, my Grandad’s fighting spirit along with support from the Stroke Association meant that in March, after 2 months in hospital, he was able to go home and be with his family. Although still needing lots of care, the research and information provided by the Stroke Association allowed my Grandad, Alan, to have a new treatment often known as ‘clot buster’ which helped save his life and on 6 April he and my Gran, Ruth, were able to celebrate their Diamond Wedding anniversary!
Any money raised through the JustGiving page will go to an excellent charity whose research helps not only support stroke survivors but also the families of those who have been affected. Strokes can happen to anyone, even youngsters and babies, with 20,000 sufferers being under 65. The Stroke Association is currently finding new ways of helping to prevent a stroke through providing new information available to everyone. Crucial research is also needed in order to find new or improve existing treatments and to help understand the changes of the brain after a stroke which will help support and stabilise survivors. For any other information, please follow the link to the Stroke Association website which I'm sure will answer any other questions you may have:- http://www.stroke.org.uk/home
