Our baby pickle needs surgery 😩 please help by supporting us to raise funds for gsp rescue UK x
Our little pickle arrived with us just over a year ago. We adopted from gsp rescue UK when her UK home didn't work out. However Pip was initially found wandering the streets of Greece.
When we adopted her we were told on arrival to the UK pip was initially very skinny and sore on her hips. Their vet manipulated the hip and she had good range both sides. Because of her poor condition they didn't warrant putting her under anaesthetic for x rays.
Pip became better on her legs once she put some weight on and managed her daily walks without any problems, but a slightly unusual gait.
When she arrived with us she zoomed around like nothing was wrong, despite this unusual gait. Then when she muscled up we noticed the right side was much more muscular than the left.
She didn't seem phased by it but I worried it could be hip dysplasia and decided to x ray.
We were shocked to find out that Pip had a dislocated left hip and part of her pelvis missing on that side!
We were told the options were
1)a hip replacement but with her anatomy it may be tricky
2)leave and medicate as running ok for now, amputate leg when becomes arthritic, painful
Thinking for the future we asked to be referred to an orthopaedic specialist to discuss options, they also took x rays, they couldn't believe how Pip wasn't even limping looking at her x rays!
They stated there is bone rubbing on bone so she must be in pain, just very stoic😪
But they thought with her anatomy a hip replacement wasn't the best option for her, instead a femoral head and neck excision was suggested. This effectively shaves off the two bones touching each other and through essential hydrotherapy and physiotherapy the muscle will cushion between post surgery.
However pip presents now, left untreated she'll develop early onset arthritis and potentially need the leg amputating. The specialist stated the injury could be from impact (car or injury in Greece) congetinital, or; a combination of the two.
Only Pip knows what she's been through 😪
As you can imagine non of the above have been cheap, but the love, support, fundraising and financial help from pips rescue has been unbelievable ❤
If Carlsberg did rescues it would be gsp rescue UK 🥰❤x
