Story

The Mid-Ulster Mountaineers (M.U.M) are taking on a mammoth challenge in June 2022 in memory of my beautiful daughter.

Molly was born on 6th June 2013 and suffered from
Dystonic Cerebral Palsy & Severe Epilepsy. She was severely brain damaged, required oxygen 24/7 and had no mobility whatsoever. She could not hold her head up, walk or talk. Molly was tube fed, catheterised, and required continuous suction. Throughout her 5 years she received 20 medicines per day and required 24-hour care.

As Molly’s mum, caring for her 24/7 was very challenging and difficult. The Children’s Hospice provided me with respite both in my home and in Horizon House, Belfast.

The hospice team cared for Molly in a loving, caring, and professional manner. They created very special memories of my beautiful daughter, memories which money simply cannot buy. They made different posters using her handprints and footprints. These are the only cherished keepsakes I have left.

The hospice staff made Molly pain free, comfortable and
feeling secure whilst also providing me with parental care and counselling.

Molly was only 5 years old when she passed away in my arms in Horizon House, Belfast.

The Children’s Hospice is an amazing organisation, relying
on charitable donations to keep their beds open.

The M.U.M. will be climbing the highest peaks located in the
4 provinces in Ireland. The challenge will take in Carrauntoohil, the highest mountain in Ireland with 1038m elevation in Munster.  Mweelrea mountain with 814 m elevation, located in Connacht. Lugnaquilla with 925m elevation located in Leinster and Slieve Donard with 850m elevation located in County Down. It is our aim to complete
the challenge in 72 hours.

The group will be putting in many hours of dedicated training in all weather conditions over the next number of months in preparation for the
challenge.

We would be so grateful for any donation you can afford. It
does not matter how big or how small – it will make the difference to a local family in need of hospice services for a very ill child.

Please share our Just Giving page with your family and
friends to help raise much needed funds for a very worthy charity and keep Molly’s pecious memory alive.

Molly had the most amazing smile ever!! She lit up every
room she entered. Not everyone gets to meet their Hero in their lifetime; I met mine the day Molly was born. She will be forever 5, loved and missed beyond the moon and the stars.

On behalf of myself, local families who have availed of the
services of NI Children’s Hospice and the Mid-Ulster Mountaineers, thank you for taking the time to read my story and supporting our group in the mammoth
challenge that lies ahead.
