I volunteered for the International Citizen Service program as talking about what should be done to help a developing community is obviously very different from actually going there and  helping, which is what I have decided to do, I fly on the 17th May 2012.

I also volunteered on the ICS program in an effort to meet new people and make friends, a task I have found difficult due to my autism (Asperger Syndrom), by the end of this 12 weeks I hope to have gained new skills and experiences that I will be able to share with others, who are willing, in an effort to help others.

As I have rarely ventured outside my own country, another culture that has a different style of living than I am used to, understanding and adapting to a new way of life may prove dfficult; but I have managed to find, with topics that may prove a challenge, with perserverance anything can be achieved.

Restless Development is a youth-led development agency giving ICS volunteers the chance to spend 12 weeks in Africa or Asia helping train, educate, support and inspire young people to lead development in their own countries. I will be involved in addressing crucial issues to do with sexual and reproductive health (including HIV), unemployment, and other factors that contribute to poverty. The programme involves extensive training on these issues, and activities include conducting awareness campaigns, running training sessions and events, helping form youth groups which tackle poverty and unemployment head on, as well as working with staff to develop exciting new projects.
