Story

Hello! We are Sammi and Jayne, and very soon we will be putting our lives on hold for 50 hours as we live together in a small glass box!

The box will be situated in the foyer of the Tesco Extra store in the middle of Stourbridge (DY8 1YD), and we will be very much on public view through the day and night! We will be eating, drinking working and sleeping inside the 3m x 2m space, and doing our best to keep ourselves entertained.

So why are we doing this?

Locked in for Autism is a charity challenge campaign organised by Caudwell Children and it's all about generating awareness of autism, the most prevalent disability in the UK today. Many parents have told the charity that the box acts as a metaphor for autism - the isolation, difficulty in communicating and a sense of 'feeling trapped' are often associated with the condition. We have friends who have children with autism, and they often say that more needs to be done to raise awareness and acceptance. So here we are!

All money raised will 'stay local' and be used to support autistic children and their families across Stourbridge.

Mobile phones are banned inside the box, which is going to prove a nightmare for Sammi, while Jayne knows her family is what she will miss most. Volunteers from Caudwell Chiildren will be present throughout the challenge to offer advice to the public.

Sammi and Jayne will enter the box at 12pm on Thursday 9th July and, if successful, will exit the box at 2pm on Saturday 11th July.
