Story

QUICK UPDATE!

I only went and did it! A few bruises, some tired legs and some general aches and pains later - I completed the Saigon to Angkor Wat bike ride. It worked out at about 422km in the end (after a few changes in route and some fairly dodgy Cambodian roads) but I can honestly say it was 100% worth it. This was, hands down, the best and most challenging experience I've ever had - and with this amount of money going to Parkinson's I would do it all again tomorrow!!

Thanks to the incredible group and amazing guides - the support meant there were plenty of laughs along the way despite the bruised bums! Check out more below to see why I did the cycle in the first place.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

At the beginning of this year I decided I really wanted to raise some money for Parkinson's UK. My Grandma suffered with the disease for almost as long as I can remember and, although she was my hero and never complained, it was obvious how much of a struggle it could be. However, the support provided by Parkinson's UK was incredible. From local group support to ground breaking ideas on how to help her with her coordination or speech, Parkinson's UK were there every step of the way. I also know my Granddad has had continued support and been involved with the charity before and ever since she passed away two years ago.

So this is my way of showing Parkinson's UK support and making sure their amazing work can be continued - every hour someone in the UK is told they have the condition - so it really is vital that the charity gets continued support in trying to find a cure.

I will be cycling from Vietnam to Cambodia, peddling for 450km, to raise money for this fantastic cause. Seeing as I didn't own a bike before March 2013 this seemed like an absolutely mammoth task, but fundraising and training has been a lot of fun.

Training has included cycling the 14 miles to and from work when ever it isn't raining as well as running (which I am pretty bad at but slowly improving). One of my fundraisers included cycling 120 miles in just 12 hours for a sponsored pedal on an exercise bike - so it was great to see quite how much training has improved my fitness. I've also lost just under a stone since starting - so it turns out this challenge has been great for my health as well as for some others hopefully!

At the point of writing this I'm just under the half way mark and thrilled with the support and donations so far. I can't wait to reach my target and complete the cycle.

Thanks again for visiting my page,
