Story
I ran a half marathon yesterday!! But that was just the warm up exercise, as i’ve only gone and bagged myself a place in the London Marathon next April!! Yes, 48 years young and about to embark on the hardest physical challenge of my life so far!
I feel lucky however to be healthy enough to even contemplate training for it (although i’m not sure how well my knees are going to hold up to the pounding!) and it is for this reason that I’ve chosen to raise money for Worldwide Cancer Research.
There aren’t many of us fortunate enough not to have been touched in some way by Cancer and we all have a common interest in helping to find a cure. The only way that this is going to happen is through research, which is expensive but without it no further progress will be made.
Worldwide Cancer Research is an independent charity whose global aim is to save lives that are being lost to cancer by funding research into any type of cancer anywhere in the world to increase our understanding of the disease and help us find and develop better, more effective treatments. Since 1979 they have funded over 1800 cancer research projects in 34 countries.
I have started my fundraising campaign already, here in Singapore by offering to bake you a delicious chocolate bundt cake for every $50 donation (or 8 cupcakes for a $25 donation!) To those of you outside of Singapore, unfortunately i’m unable to offer this incentive, but please don't let that put you off donating, and if you are ever passing through, please do drop in and I promise i’ll rustle you up something equally delicious!
So, anyway, there’s my big news, and i’m really hopeful that you will help me to raise as much money as possible for a such a necessary and worthwhile cause.
