Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. In September 2013 my dad was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus, and after tests my family was informed that it was in fact incurable. Several courses of chemo were endured at the Macmillan centre in Crewe, along with numerous radiotherapy sessions and countless appointments, where the nurses, doctors and reception staff were nothing but helpful and made our terrified dad feel calm and more at ease. Understandably, the whole process was unbelievably difficult for my whole family, and without the help and positive attitude of all that work there I doubt we would have coped.
Although ill and in pain, my dad was rarely seen without a smile on his face. He fought and struggled every day and I am so proud to call him my dad, but on the 13th February 2015, my amazing dad fell into a deep sleep whilst holding my hand, and never woke up again.
My brother and I would like to celebrate the tremendous courage and strength of all those who face this awful illness, both the patients and their families, whilst raising money in memory of our dad in support of the incredible Macmillan nurses, by climbing the highest free-standing mountain in the world, Mount Kilimanjaro. Something that our dad was so proud and supportive of, but will unfortunately never see completed.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and thank you for your support.
