Story
CoppaFeel! are the first UK breast cancer charity to create awareness amongst young people, with the aim to install a new healthy habit that could one day save a life. They are on a mission to stamp out late detection of breast cancer and ensure the nation is checking their boobs regularly. They want to educate people on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, encourage them to get to know what is normal for them and empower young people to have the confidence to see a doctor if they notice anything that isn't right for them.
At the beginning of this year I wanted to be healthier and set myself a challenge in order to have a goal to aim for.
Over the past few years I’ve been sent on various filming expeditions involving mountain climbing and I actually really got the climbing bug whilst training.
Mt Blanc in the French Alps is the highest mountain in Western Europe at an altitude of nearly 16,000ft (4,800m).
This is the challenge I’ve set myself next month - to summit Mt Blanc during a gruelling 6 day trip with the team at Jagged Globe.
To say it’s going to be one of the hardest (and most dangerous) things I’ve ever done is an understatement.
Whilst this is a personal endeavour, and a trip I’m funding myself, I feel the pain and suffering shouldn’t be totally for my own self-satisfaction.
That’s why I’ve set up this page to raise money for the charity, ‘Coppafeel’ - a breast cancer awareness charity. A few years ago I went to Peru to film a group of amazing people raising money for Coppafeel by trekking 10 days through the Andes, some of whom had breast cancer themselves.
One lady in particular, Laura, had been diagnosed with secondary cancer at the time, and against all what she was going through, she remained the most bubbly, friendly and optimistic person you could imagine for someone going through an illness as horrendous as cancer, as I’m sure many of you reading this are aware.
Tragically, Laura passed away in 2017 and Jon has done incredible work in keeping her fundraising legacy alive (laufest.com).
Laura’s message was simple, check your boobs, it could save your life. It could’ve saved hers. That’s why I’m wanting people to donate what they can - to help organisations like Coppafeel carry on raising awareness for such an important issue not only for women, but men also.
The trip begins on Wednesday 5th June with summit day on Monday 10th June. Hopefully I’ll make it back in one piece..!
