How my Kilimanjaro Challenge came about …………

I heard a speech made at a local event in 2011 by Vicky Crossingham, Chair of the St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust.

I was left inspired by what I heard; the challenges of managing work and family life and learning of Vicky’s achievement in helping to establish the very first Hospice Care beds in Cornwall.

Fate ensured that within weeks of hearing this speech, a Cornwall Hospice Care leaflet about a Trek to Everest Base Camp quite literally, fell into my hands and without any research or prior thought, I signed up to take part.

This was the beginning of my relationship with the charity which has gone from strength to strength.

I embarked on the Trek in November 2012 and despite not having any personal ‘reasons’ for taking part, I shared an emotional and spiritual journey with fellow trekkers whose stories left a lasting impression.

For some, it was a pilgrimage taking ashes to the tallest mountain in the world, for others, it was the fulfilment of a promise to a loved one, who had been nursed by Cornwall Hospice Care.

The entire life-changing experience humbled me, and on returning from the trip, I decided that this was just the beginning of my support for the charity.

In August this year, I organised a 4-day Ale Festival at The Bowgie, seeing donations given from all beer and cider consumed over the event, sales of Ale Festival t-shirts and glassware, bands.

I have also organised an annual Grunge Night and a James Bond Theme Night which have all raised funds for Cornwall Hospice Care.

Now I am seeking sponsorship to raise more money for my chosen Cornish Charity.

If everyone I know on Facebook, Twitter and via email sponsors me just £1 – I will be well on my way to my target.

So please donate from as little as £1 – it will take you just one minute but it will mean so much.

It will be the biggest encouragement I could ask for when I need it during the challenge!

Thank you in advance for your support.

If you would rather sponsor me in person, please let me know!

Why don’t you sign up for a Cornwall Hospice Care Challenge yourself!?
