Story
Sadly, my amazing wife Robina is no longer with us, but she left with us with incredible memories that bring a smile to so many faces who remember her unique personality and sense of humour. It was during Robina’s cancer treatment that she spent some time at Saint Catherine’s Hospice, who changed my life forever.
It’s true to say that we often take life for granted and we choose quite rightly to ignore the inevitable. We all hope to live a full and wonderful life and when the time comes we pray for it to be swift and peaceful. Unfortunately Robina’s life ended far too early and her final journey was a hard and painful one that at times was very difficult for me to witness.
Saint Catherine's offered us both unconditional support and understanding and they really made a positive difference to help manage Robina’s care needs & pain, which was often unbearable. To witness first hand the dedication, care and attention the team give to their patients and family members like me was just incredible.
Every town & city needs their own Saint Catherine’s Hospice to help families manage life limiting conditions. The emotional pain, suffering, and understanding every family faces when in such a difficult situation can be overwhelming. Saint Catherine's do an amazing job to dignify what can often be an undignified experience and help you to make the best of what little time may be left, whilst entering the final chapter of life. I join a huge list of families who find it difficult to fully express their gratitude and praise for the entire team at Saint Catherine’s – Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything that you do :)
Saint Catherine's Hospice in Scarborough is committed to providing the best possible care and quality of life for those with life limiting illnesses. They provide care and support at home and in the hospice for adults with a terminal illness, and to their families, and friends.
Their range of holistic services allow patients to remain as active as possible and make the most of every day.
Saint Catherine's staff and volunteers provide a respectful space where patients can chat and laugh, make friends, and ask questions. They understand sadness and listen to fears.
All Saint Catherine's services are provided free of charge, meaning that they rely on the support of fundraisers to help reach the £5million a year it costs to care for patients.
