Story

On the 18th March some members of the SLT society at Newcastle will be taking on a 24-hour modified food challenge. They are only going to be eating pureed or minced and moist food (level 4 and 5 on the IDSSI framework) for 24-hours ! We are doing this to raise awareness of dysphagia. Dysphagia is having eating, swallowing and drinking difficulties which can have potential life threatening consequences. It can also affect individuals quality of life due to embarrassment, lack of enjoyment of food and social difficulties.

We are raising money for HANCUK as dysphagia affects between 50-60% of head and neck cancer survivors. HANCUK is a patient led charity that aims to raise awareness of head and neck cancer its symptoms, diagnosis and treatment. They also help patients make informed decisions about their care and treatments and act as advocates for patients, their carers and families.
