Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my just giving page.
Hello, my name is Bailey, I am 8 years old and here is my story of how I started the Bailey bears charity
In 2009 my dad was diagnosed with a low grade glioma and underwent surgery to remove the tumor in 2010. In 2019 my dad was told that his tumor had returned again and the decision was made that my dad would need surgery to remove the tumor. After a consultation between my mam, dad, the surgeon and oncologist nurses it was agreed my dad would undergo surgery in January 2022. During this consultation my mam expressed her concerns on the effects this would have on me age 6. My mam explained how I had previously used a support bear to help with his anxiety during lockdown. My mam had a discussion with Katie Chubb, ward Clarke , and they decided to create a surgery bear for me. My bear had the same surgical wound and stitches as my dad would have after surgery. Katie made my bear and it was given to me just before my dad underwent surgery. During my dads recovery I looked after my bear, the same way my mam looked after my dad, For example, when my dad needed to rest, so did the bear. Once recovered my dad was ready to undergo radiotherapy which lasted 30 days. It was at this time I decided i would like to raise money so other children like me could also have a surgery bear to look after just like he did. I ran for 4 minutes every day, for 30 days the same length and time as my dads radiotherapy sessions. I took my bear on each of these runs. I raised £380 to go towards the cost of providing bears to other children.
In 2022 I ran the mini great north run taking my fundraising total to £1500
I have now ran 2 mini great north runs aswell as other fundraising events taking my total to over £3000 I will be running my 1st JUNIOR GNR this year to hopefully raise more money to help more families and children effected by cancer
Thanks for reading my story
