Story

Ryan was a 30 year old northern lad, living in sunny Norfolk. He loved with his wife Rosie (that’s me!) and her family (Tina, Paul, Charlie and pet cat Thomas). Ryan had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a congenital muscular disease where the body’s muscles weaken over time.

Ryan lived life to the full and was extremely popular. We met playing Powerchair football 10 years ago and still did this year! We got together on 31/12/2019 and kept it quiet for over a year due to covid! But on 3/2/2021, we went public and we’re finally able to see each other again thanks to covid restrictions lifting! On 25/06/2021, Ryan proposed to me and of course I have to say YES! He’s the man of my dreams and we started to plan our huge and beautiful wedding. On 14th October 2022, Ryan finally moved in! No more trips twice a month breaking the bank to see each other. We celebrated our anniversary, holidays together, his 30th birthday, our first Christmas living together and Valentine’s Day!

Whilst Ryan was living in Norfolk, he played for Norwich City Powerchair Football Team and formed a bond with the team, powered by Norwich CSF. He played, he scored and helped the teams championship division campaign to a respectable 7th place finish - with hopes of pushing for promotion in season 23/24.

On June 22nd this year, Ryan was admitted to hospital with a chest infection, caused by Rhino disease (common cold). However sadly, his fight was too big and he didn’t have the strength. Once the medical staff had done everything they can, they delivered the news to Ryan at 2am. I was called up to the hospital at 3am in the morning, preparing for the worst. He sat me on the end of the bed and told me “baby I need you to be strong, like really strong. They’ve told me there’s nothing more they can do, I’m going to keep fighting but it’s going to be a big fight. So before anything bad happens, I need you to be Mrs Dack, we’re getting married this morning”. My body was in shock, I’m getting married to give my best friend and love of my life his final wishes, but also crushed because I could lose him. We were in the middle of planning our big dream wedding - but that didn’t matter because what we did have was each other and that meant more than money could ever buy.

At 8:45am, we were husband & wife! I think we set the record for the fastest wedding organised ever! He was able to get through his vows and we were able to be together at the hospital in a private room on our wedding night. However things turned bad quickly. On my 25th birthday, we were told Ryan was at “End Of Life Care”. I fainted in shock when I found out.

At 6:38pm, that day, Ryan took his last breath surrounded by myself, his parents, my parents and his brother Dylan. I was absolutely crushed. His cause of death was named Pneumonia caused by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

A few weeks before Ryan’s passing, we spoke about our wishes when we pass. Ryan’s wishes were only flowers from Family and carers, donations to be made by everyone else. Please donate if you can. £100 can give the team a sports hall to practice in once a week. £50 can help with the teams affiliation fees so they can participate. £25 can help with chair maintenance and upkeep. £10 can help buy resources for training and match day.
