This is Ryans story....... Ryan was a typical 14 year old boy who played in a football team and on his xbox every spare minute. It all started mid December last year with double vision which later worsened with nausea, dizziness, headaches and sleepiness. I had his eyes checked and no problems were found so he was referred to Derby Royal Opthalmology. He was told to return in 6 months for a recheck. Some 6-8 weeks later other symptoms developed and I took him to our GP. He was concerned and referred him back to Derby with view of doing a brain scan. This was organised and on 20th March a scan was performed. From that day our lives changed.....he was diagnosed with hydrocephalus and a brain tumour. By that evening he was admitted to the QMC childrens brain tumour ward. The following day he had his first operation to brain the fluid from his brain. This was successful but a biopsy still needed to be taken of the tumour. This was performed on 2nd April and from this biopsy we learnt that he had a 'Germinoma' tumour. An unusual tumour but one they were confident of curing. On 17th April he had his central line fitted in preparation for his following 4-6 months of treatment. And this is where we are today......awaiting the start of his chemotherapy. Its been a whirlwind past few months but I do think we are all coping really well and Ryan is being so brave bless him. While Ryan was in hospital after his first operation he read about this charity and said he would like to raise some money to help other children in this unfortunate situation. Everyone has been amazing and raising money in all directions in various ways. We are thankful for all the support we have all had and the support for the charity. Ryan is overwhelmed that we have managed to raise so much up to now. I will try and keep this page updated for anyone that wants to know his progress ♡
