Story
Our little baby boy Rupert entered the world on 19th December 2019 - 10 weeks earlier than expected.
Although we were nervous about how he would cope, we felt confident in the knowledge that babies arrive early all of the time and can be perfectly fine. Although he needed some help with his breathing, things were looking positive and we were counting down the days to bring our bundle of joy home.
3 days later, at Heartlands Hospital, we received news that would change our lives forever - it was confirmed that Rupert had suffered a severe bleed to both sides of his brain and it would be very unlikely that he would survive.
We were then informed of the Eden Suite - a bereavement suite which cares for families who sadly lose their baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death. The unit provides a peaceful and private environment for parents in their time of need.
Our last 24 hours with Rupert were spent in the Eden Suite and we were overwhelmed with the care, support and love we received within that time. We simply cannot speak highly enough of it. The staff and facilities are absolutely incredible and we were made to feel that we were the only people that mattered - nothing was too much trouble. Without the Eden Suite we would have been deprived of the private, precious, magical moments that we were able to spend with our son before he passed away on Christmas Eve, and we will be forever truly grateful of that time.
No one should ever have to go through this, I would not wish it upon my worst enemy - but for anyone that does (and sadly that is a lot of people), I hope they can have the experience and support of the Eden Suite - nobody realises they need it until the time comes and thank goodness that this kind of support is out there for families.
We would like to raise money to help the Eden Suite continue it's phenomenal work and support families in such fragile and traumatic situations like ours. We hope you can help us support the next family that visits the Eden Suite...
