Story

During 2022 our friend and colleague Kevin Wilson became seriously unwell whilst working in Iraq and was sadly diagnosed with a brain tumour. To show our support for Kevin we have decided to run a Marathon next year and raise some funds for a charity of his choosing.

Being from Inverurie Kevin has been receiving treatment at the hospital in Aberdeen and has chosen local charity Friends of ANCHOR to benefit from our fundraising efforts. As the admin costs of the charity are covered by Balmoral Group every penny you donate goes directly to the cause which benefits the cancer and hematology patients in the North East of Scotland.

Kevin's wife Ashley has written the words below, bravely sharing their story.

'Summer of 2022, is a period our family will never forget. A catalyst change in taking everything for granted, even the simplest of things. Sadly, this was the start of a horrific journey, that would change the dynamic in our family. Kevin was diagnosed with a grade 4 unmethylated glioblastoma brain tumour. Underwent a gruelling, 6 hour surgery to have his tumour removed. In the months to follow Kevin underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy. He is due to start an intense course of chemotherapy in January 2023. With a grim statistical picture painted to us, Kevin’s determination to fight this, provides the backbone for my family’s strength to ensure he defies all!

The staff at ARI (Aberdeen Royal Infirmary) have been phenomenal. It truly is the simplest of gestures that make all the difference, a smile and ‘how are you’ for someone who is suffering and fighting daily demons, can really change a patients mindset. Friends of ANCHOR provided that comfort blanket on a daily basis, and lightened the turmoil of the daily treks to the hospital to receive treatment. Back in September before Kevin’s procedure, as very wise Doctor said ‘positive, positive, positive – that’s what will get you through this’ and we have lived everyday and continue to live in that mindset.'

Thanks for your support, it's greatly appreciated by Kevin, Ashley & Family.
