Story

We are devastated to have lost our wonderful Ruaridh Gardner, who died very suddenly at the age of 28. Roo was a very generous soul and we would like to raise some money in his honour.

Throughout the past 6 years Roo struggled on and off with his mental health, however he had made a lot of progress since summer 2020. One organisation that Roo was closely linked with was Mosaic Clubhouse based in Brixton, who 'aims to promote positive mental health for those aged 16 and over, living with severe and often enduring mental health conditions, enabling individuals to regain the confidence and skills necessary to lead productive and satisfying lives.'

'The two central tenets of Mosaic are the concept of membership of the Clubhouse Community and working side by side with staff to co-deliver clubhouse activities as a key means of regaining confidence and self-esteem. Members work on reception, run our café, maintain our gardens, support our administration and finance activities and deliver workshops for the benefit of their peers. Members are the key stakeholders within our organisation and participate in all our work, decision-making and governance opportunities. Although the Clubhouse has paid support staff, services are deliberately understaffed, as a means of ensuring that everything is delivered in a partnership between members and staff.'  [Taken from Mosaic clubhouse website: https://www.mosaic-clubhouse.org/what-we-do]

Ruaridh started his journey with Mosaic just over a year ago, and would help out in the kitchen.

In April 2021 Roo was a key person in the running of the Solid Foundation Programme, which was a 6 week programme linking football with well being to a group of young kids from the St. Matthews area of Brixton aged 13-14.

Ruaridh helped out to prepare, cook and transport a healthy takeaway meal for the kids after the training session alongside other members and colleagues from Mosaic.

Ruaridh also took part in the discussions with the young kids during weeks 5 & 6 of the programme. His growth was evident and remarkable.

We would like to thank the members and staff at Mosaic for the positive part they played in Ruaridh's life.
