Story
Ted passed away peacefully on 26th March 2023, a month short of his 100th birthday. In recent years, ARNI helped him and his grandson Harry, re build their mobility, with Ted being ARNI’s oldest participant and Harry one of the youngest.
Ted requested that, rather than sending funeral flowers, a charitable donation in his memory could be made to ARNI.
ARNI (Action for Rehabilitation after Neurological Injury) is a small charity run entirely by volunteers, supporting stroke survivors and others with mobility issues, training and providing specialist instructors and therapists. ARNI was set up by Tom Balchin, who survived a stroke himself in his early 20’s and all donations go directly to helping re build lives after neurological injury.
ARNI helped Ted walk again after a stay in hospital at the age of 98 where he didn’t get out of bed and so lost the strength in his legs. His specialist ARNI trainer visited weekly and set up an exercise programme that got him walking around the flat again. Ted’s grandson Harry, had a stroke at 16, and was initially unable to walk and in a wheelchair. He had amazing therapy initially, but when that stopped, he started with an ARNI instructor and has been able to take on the challenge of a 5K charity run.
ARNI trainers are stroke and mobility experts, who typically work with people in their own homes, focusing on independence and self set goals.
