To coincide with the Olympic venue making its crossing from London to Rio de Janeiro over the Atlantic Ocean, we have created a challenge which will allow us to honour the legacy of the Olympics. This challenge involves following the Olympic journey using human power alone, using a combination of rowing and cycling. 

We have plotted a route which will allow us to complete the journey using only an ocean rowing boat, bicycles, and the four team members determination.

On January 9th we set off from the Olympic park and completed the first leg of cycling from London to Lagos in south Portugal. We cycled through some miserable conditions to make the journey in 23 days.  

The next leg is to row across the Atlantic Ocean to Brazil- all 4000 miles of it! In our 8.5 metre boat we will tackle huge waves, sea sickness, blisters, salt sores, cabin fever and coping with rowing in two hour shifts, 24 hours per day.  You can follow our journey at www.row2rio2016.co.uk

Once we reach land in Brazil we will then be back on the bikes ready to cycle the last few thousand miles into Rio in time for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Choosing which charity to do this for was the easiest decision to make.  The team have family who have been directly supported by Macillan Cancer support, and we know completely how life-changing dealing with cancer can be.  We thoroughly believe that no one should face cancer alone which is why we want to raise as much money for Macmillan to help fund their work in making sure as many people have the vital support they need during diagnosis, treatment and dealing with the aftermath that cancer can create.
