Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Tragically, Lee passed away recently after a short battle with cancer. At 42, a year younger than myself, this has affected me and our group of friends deeply. I did not have the privilege of growing up with Lee, but over the last few years had come to know him as one of the most gentle, caring, considerate and happy individuals you could ever wish to meet. I literally never saw him without a smile on his face!
Lee wanted people to support Cornwall Hospice Care in his memory. I unfortunately know only too well how vital the services offered by this charity are to patients and their families, and this charity, like many others, rely almost entirely on public donations to survive. Now, during these uncertain times, they need help more than ever.
I didn't know quite how best to raise money for this cause, so I got to thinking.... "You haven't done a challenge for a while", my inner fitness devil said to me towards the end of the summer break. "I know", I replied, "but what can I do that's a little bit different?" "Well, you have been doing quite a lot of Zoom workouts from home, lots of those horrible burpees and stuff" it said.....
The Burpee Mile is not something particularly knew - it's been around for over 10 years now, but not many people attempt it (I wonder why!) The rules are as follows: 'Cover one mile using full chest down burpees only. You may jump forward as far as you want for each burpee, but you may not walk forward at any point'.
"What a great idea" the fitness devil said. "Really? Sounds slightly mad to me" I replied - "You do realise I am you" the devil retorted....
So, I'm going to give it a stab. Saturday 3rd October, Par Athletics Track. 1pm start. Should take under 3 hours and probably abut 700 burpees to finish it....
