Story
At the age of 74, I have pledged 200 hours over the next two months to clear a flat which has been unoccupied since the death of the owner. For a number of reasons the family have been unable to undertake this task.
It's a major undertaking, first moving everything out, then a lot of scrubbing and sweeping. However it’s as nothing compared to the stand taken and sacrifices made by extraordinary people in Iran who are challenging the evils of the current regime. I want to be their voice and inspire them through supporting the ILA.
I will be making sure that as far as possible the furniture and contents go to charity or are disposed of in the most ecologically friendly way. I will need to sort and separate smaller items into maybe 100 boxes of glass, metal, fabric, electrical goods etc so that they are ready for donation or recycling. I will be putting ads on websites and contacting charities and individuals and arrange collection.
Then there will be the cleaning to do and supervising the clearing of the garden. It’s a lot of work, but the outcome should have a ripple effect, benefiting not just the family but the wider community and, with your support, the wonderful ILA. I am dedicating this effort to the brave people of Iran, especially the female prisoners of conscience whose bravery is beyond belief. I want to raise money to support them.
The good people of Iran are bravely speaking out against the grave injustices that are taking place in their country. I am deeply committed to supporting their aspirations for peace, freedom and basic, humane living conditions.
Every penny you donate will go to the International Liberty Association. The organisation campaigns for human rights in Iran and the wider Middle East, for an end to executions and extrajudicial imprisonments, the use of child soldiers, the suppression of women and for the release of those imprisoned for their political or religious views, ethnicity, gender or sexuality.
