Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising money for the Birth Trauma Association’s Mindful Walking in March - walking 5000 steps every day in March. That will be about five times what I’m doing on average a day at the moment.
The Birth Trauma Association is a charity that supports women who suffer birth trauma – a shorthand term for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after birth. About 30,000 women a year, according to the most recent research, experience birth trauma in the UK.
When I had my little boy the delivery didn’t go to plan. It was days of labour, no pain relief for much of it, ending in an emergency C section because my baby was in serious distress. He turned out to have his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck twice. I was lucky. He and I were both fine but I was left tearful every time I thought about the birth for several months after. I struggled to talk about what had happened. I’m lucky this didn’t affect me in any other way.
The Birth Trauma Association provides support to women that have had traumatic birth experiences. I wish I had known about them when I first had my son. Hopefully raising this money can help other women and their families through a really tough time.
