Story
Thank you SO much for coming and visiting my page!
You're here because you know me and if you know anything about me at all you will know that running a marathon is about as far from where my natural talents lie as is possible... So, what on earth possessed me to do it?
A little over a year ago my big sister, Chenoa, was diagnosed with relapsing remitting Multiple Sclerosis. More about MS below, but the most important thing is telling you a bit about my sister... Recently 40, she is an absolute super-mum to three gorgeous children: Dylan, Malina and Inara.
How much of a super-mum really occurred to me a year or so ago as I watched her walking down the pavement with three unruly children, a push chair and dog all running amok while she cooly resisted the temptation to turn to cattle prods and duct tape as I might have done... There are the after school activities (you name it, they do it!), her job teaching for the Open University, a supportive partner to Stuart and now the challenge of dealing with an increasingly un-certain future.
As a brief introduction, MS is an auto-immune disease where the body attacks it's own nervous system with devastating and deteriorating effects. In this case, these 'attacks' are sporadic and the impact can range from tingling and numbness to complete loss of vision or movement. These 'relapses' can last for hours, days or even months and as you can imagine, they can have anything from a difficult to devastating effect.
The MS society provided hugely valuable information and support to Chenoa and our whole family as everyone tried to understand more about the disease. They also fund research which is TRULY transforming the prospects for those who are affected. With increased funding, there is a very REAL chance that new treatments can be developed easily within Chenoa's lifetime and potentially with the ability to transform her prospects and to ensure she can continue to be the super-mum to her kids that she is now.
I've never done something like this before... The fact that my first run ended at 0.6miles with me almost being sick should serve as notice that I will likely never do something like this again. PLEASE help me to smash my target - it would me the world to me, and it could mean the world to Dylan, Malina and Inara.
