Story

From Rob’s sisters, Cathy Bradley, Mary Wilson and Lucy Edyvean.

Our dear brother Rob died on 21st September 2022.  We have chosen to support SEAPIA (Sands End Associated Projects in Action) in his memory as this is a worthwhile local project we believe he would like to help. Rob loved living in Fulham and enjoyed meeting his friends regularly in the Brown Cow or the Durell Arms.

You are probably reading this because you knew our brother Rob. You may also know that he loved sport -- mostly golf and tennis, which he played himself a lot, and football, of course -- he was an ardent Man United supporter.

Sadly Rob suffered from a complicated set of conditions, with progressive heart failure at the centre. The Covid pandemic was a blow.  Rob shielded carefully during lockdown as he knew that he was vulnerable and was at increased risk of not surviving an infection; so he was unable to see his friends or play golf.

Rob kept up with our family via Zoom. He worked from home and enjoyed helping to develop a medical communications app, DocComs. He was incredibly resilient in these difficult circumstances and found inventive ways to entertain himself during lockdown such as an electronic drum kit and a virtual reality headset. It was a long time to spend on your own but Rob was bravely determined to get through it and live a normal life again.

Although Rob did not get Covid, he became increasingly weak and unable to leave his flat. Like the answer to a prayer, Harefield Hospital offered him the chance of a major heart operation which could have prepared him for a heart transplant. Despite the risks, this operation offered him the chance of getting his old life back. He went for it.

At first, Rob made progress and was hopeful of a good outcome, but then a series of setbacks occurred, the most serious being an intractable infection in his lungs that his body could not fight. Rob died at Harefield Hospital, peacefully and surrounded by his family.

The funeral will be on Friday 4th November at 2pm, at Randalls Park Crematorium, Leatherhead. Rob would enjoy seeing everybody so much if only he could be there too.
