Story
On the 13th October 2020 our Dad passed away at home peacefully surrounded by his family. He was 69 and died from metastatic bowel cancer!
Dad was first diagnosed in 2016 and with treatment he was able to live a full and active life until it returned in July 2020. The photo on this page was from 1st May 2020 where Dad was walking 20km a day. Due to the nature of the disease he was referred to palliative care for pain management and in August he was resident at the Thames Valley Hospice for 6 weeks.
The care and compassion that Dad received was unbelievable. They supported all aspects of his care from pain management to liaising with consultants, GP's and surgeons to get things moving, as well as supporting the well being of the family by offering complimentary therapies. Not to mention the meals, endless cups of tea and daily cakes made by volunteers!
As we got to know the staff we were shocked that 50% of their revenue comes from fundraising and they require £8million per year to provide these services 365 days a year for free.
As a tribute to Dad, we would ask that instead of sending flowers for the funeral that people donate to this worthy cause and give back to those that helped him through those 6 weeks.
A special thanks to nurses Simon and Ronni and to Dr Harris and Dr Anita for all they did for Dad.
Many thanks
Eve, Kellie & William
