Story
From Ritesh, Darshana, Rahil and Savan
We are pleased to announce that we are hosting a 3-day cricket camp in Zimbabwe this December. The camp is called Far and Wide Cricket and it’s the start of a long-term sustainable programme of educating and developing underprivileged communities around Zimbabwe through the game of cricket. As a start we will introduce the game of cricket to 150 boys and girls in a very simple and fun way, with the aim of sharing the discipline and structure of cricket, to raise awareness in these high-density communities. The camp will be held on 20th – 22nd of December in 3 locations across Harare. With local coaches volunteering on the ground and through the generous donations of cricket equipment by UK schools and clubs we are thrilled to be able to kick start the first of many camps.
We are super excited to be partnering with ZOF Africa (UK
registered charity) on this initiative to assist with the redistribution of the funds. This independent vehicle introduces the governance and oversight on the programme. We hope to build a long-term partnership with ZOF as we identify talent through our efforts - https://zofafrica.org/
In Harare, we are pleased to be collaborating with Miracle Missions Trust – an amazing team providing valuable on the ground governance, support and assistance across all facets - we are eternally grateful for their involvement. https://www.miraclemissionstrust.com/
The broader aim of the programme is to empower the communities and provide a sense of ownership to learn and play cricket. Cricket, like all sports, played in a disciplined environment can be a healthy alternative for these children in an increasingly challenging economic and social backdrop. The Far and Wide initiative will consciously encourage female participation to ensure opportunities are available equally to all.
As well introducing the game, the objective is to identify talent and nurture it by their supporting progression through clubs, provinces, national and international level. Partnering with ZOF Africa allow us to “dream big” but we also recognise that even the small steps of progress along the way will make a difference to many children’s lives.
We are pleased to say the Zimbabwe Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture has formally approved the camps to be hosted in Harare this December and we are looking to forward to many more soon.
Thank you for your warm support.
