We will be volunteering on the “Africa Mercy” the world's  2nd largest non-governmental hospital ship that provides free medical care to some of the world's poorest people. The ship has 6 operating theatres, a CT Scanner, 4 wards, 65 beds and an Intensive Care Unit on-board. It takes 400 crew members to run this ship.

Every volunteer is vitally important on the ship. Any general donations given are used for patient care, training programs, and other costs associated with its field service initiatives – which include doctors, nurses, other medical professionals, maritime professionals, teachers and housekeepers. Everyone on board serves as a volunteer.

In March 2020, I will be off to join "Africa Mercy" in Dakar, Senegal and my wife Bernadette will follow in April.

I am a Maritime professional with 45 year’s experience and a Captains qualification. My wife is a Nurse also with many years’ experience. We are looking forward to the opportunity to serve together with Mercy Ships, to offer our joint professional skills and be part of a team that provides life changing operations to adults and children in an area where they wouldn't normally have access to such healthcare. Our professional careers have been good to us over the years and it will be a privilege to be able to put something back and serve on “Africa Mercy”.

A Hospital ship is quite unique and, as you can appreciate, a very expensive asset to run. All funds donated help in providing for the continued work. Thank you so much for your support.
