Unfortunately I never got to meet my father-in-law. Sadly he passed away because of cancer at the age of 42, leaving behind a wife and 3 children under the age of 8. In 2020, history seemed to be repeating itself as my brother-in-law, Dan was diagnosed with Melanoma cancer. The thought of him dying, leaving behind a wife and 3 children under the age of 8 was frankly terrifying.
Fortunately 2 operations later and the doctors gave him the all clear. Once the relief had set in Dan decided he needed to do something to help prevent more people going through what he had been through.
Most ‘sensible’ people would have signed up to a half-marathon, maybe a bike ride or even a triathlon. Dan has decided to devise his own ‘Ironman’. In one day, he will swim 6km, then complete a 45km bike ride over some of the steepest hills in the Lake District, followed by kayaking 11km across Lake Coniston and finished off with a 27km fell run.
Somehow he has managed to convince 15 friends and family to join him in this madness, I have signed up to do the bike ride with him.
Our aim, along with helping Dan get through this punishing day, is to raise as much money and awareness as we can.
Melanoma Fund works to raise awareness of all forms of skin cancer, as prevention is better than a cure. So please do give what you can.
Thank you so much for your support of this amazing charity.
