Story
I have never met Jo Cox but since hearing of her brutal and tragic killing yesterday I have not been able to stop crying. And so I want to do the only thing I know how to do to celebrate and honour her - raise funds. These donations will go to Oxfam.
Jo dedicated her life to public service. She spent her career working for causes including Save the Children and Oxfam and then moved into domestic politics because she believed in the power of politics to make the world a better place. She was driven by her ideals and it may be that she died for them too.
This morning at Amnesty we held a vigil for Jo. We read the words her husband Brendan shared yesterday.
"Jo believed in a better world and she fought for it every day of her life with an energy, and a zest for life that would exhaust most people.
She would have wanted two things above all else to happen now, one that our precious children are bathed in love and two, that we all unite to fight against the hatred that killed her. Hate doesn't have a creed, race or religion, it is poisonous.
Jo would have no regrets about her life, she lived every day of it to the full."
Rest in peace Jo. May your memory live on. May we bathe the world in love.
