If you have found yourself amongst those fortunate enough to
be safe and secure and would like to assist vulnerable Foundation pupils, please consider supporting the Reed’s Foundation COVID-19 Appeal in whatever way you can.
Help us to ensure that this crisis, for a vulnerable child, doesn’t last a lifetime.
As news of the pandemic began to emerge, we knew that our Foundation pupils and their families would be some of those most affected. One reads in the newspapers about the poorest and
most vulnerable in society being most at risk financially and emotionally by lockdown, but it really hits home when you know these pupils personally, many of whom struggle in life at the best of times. Thus, plans were immediately put into place to support and protect
these children through this crisis. This included extra counselling for a range of social issues, food vouchers, utility top-up cards, a 24-hour hotline for those struggling and the provision of IT equipment and wifi access to allow virtual learning to continue. All things they would have had access to if they were in the sanctuary of the School. Sadly, the economic impacts of lockdown look to be with us for a long while, and the need for the Foundation is more than ever.
Being able to provide this continued support has been very important but has come at a cost. Since March, we have managed to secure some funding from trusts and charities for Foundation pupils impacted by COVID, but it has not been enough. Unfortunately, at the same time, the Foundation’s own funding is seriously under threat as investment
values on its endowment have declined and income generated from letting the facilities, which goes towards funding Foundation pupils, has virtually ceased. Our hope is that this COVID-19 Appeal to the Reed’s community will help bridge some of the gap.
