Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Ray was a much loved husband, father and grandfather, greatly missed by former colleagues and friends. He gave much of his time to support charitable works. He died from mesothelioma (a cruel cancer caused by asbestos).
Most recently he was a Trustee for HASAG who provide amazing support for those diagnosed with mesothelioma and their families.
Ray’s funeral took place on 22nd April 2022.
It was Ray’s wish not to have flowers and the funeral and we would like you to consider making a donation to HASAG instead.100% of your donation goes to HASAG. Please do not feel you have to make a donation but we wanted to provide an opportunity to raise the profile of this charity which have been there for us during this difficult time. Of course you may wish to remember him in other ways.
The UK has the highest rates of mesothelioma in the world, with around 2,500 people dying of this disease each year. A similar number die of asbestos-related lung cancer, asbestosis and pleural thickening according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). More people die of mesothelioma than in road traffic accidents..
You can contact HASAG directly if you would like to make a donation using a method other than JustGiving by calling HASAG on: 02380 010 015
We have no idea where Ray was exposed to asbestos, whilst others who develop the disease will have been in contact with it through their work, or the work of their spouse/partner. Asbestos is still a real health issue and due to the long time period of up to 50 years after exposure before someone becomes ill, the work of HASAG will remain vital for many years to come.
Sarah has also now taken over continuing our involvement, becoming a Trustee to carry on her dad’s work.
