Story
Hello all,
Thank you so much for taking the time out to visit my donation page! I really do appreciate all the positive energy and support I have received to date to give me the energy to take on the challenge at hand!
What is the challenge
I have taken on the challenge to walk 1000 miles! Most virtual challenges like this expect you to complete it in 1 year, however I have challenged myself to try and complete this by 31st May (5 months). I started the walk on 2nd January, hence have been logging the miles on a daily basis.
What inspired me
I have really been inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore. He set such a great example and really showed me that no challenge is too difficult regardless of personal challenges one may have. He also showed me that having a strong mindset regardless of age can make anything possible.
What I want to achieve
I am aged 74 myself and as some of you know, I take my health seriously. I understand the importance of staying active to live a long and healthy life. With this, I want to inspire the younger generation that our minds are limitless and our bodies can achieve great things regardless of age. I want to show it is possible, no matter what your age, to do things that seem impossible from the outset, but with small steps every day, anything is possible.
Why am I raising for mental health?
And why Place2Be
This COVID year has been really challenging for the younger generation. These are the years where their minds should be free and able to explore. This has not happened with the restrictions resulting to minds drifting into vulnerable space.
Place2Be is a children’s mental health charity providing mental health counselling, support and training to schools to improve the emotional wellbeing of pupils, families, teachers and staff.
They work directly with 700 schools and last year reached over 380,000 children and young people through their services. They help children to cope with wide-ranging and often complex social issues including bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown, neglect and trauma.
£50 could pay for a child struggling with trauma to have a 50-minute one-to-one session with a counsellor
£200 could provide specialist support for 10 parents who are experiencing challenges such as abuse or addiction
Wrap up
I really hope you can support me on this journey and support this great charity. Please do join me on my walks – I go every day, hence please do get in touch. I will post updates and pictures as I progress to keep you updated. Just want to say thank you so much for taking the time out to read why this is important to me and your love, support and positive energy. Every penny helps, so please help in anyway you can.
