Story

An Update on the results that everyone have been waiting for.

Dear All

Firstly, a very big thank you to all those who have sponsored and encouraged us in the challenge that we decided to put ourselves into.

The Prudential RideLondon is certainly not a race, it is a ride. No doubt those of you who are up-to-date with the news affairs may have heard that approximately 35,000 cyclist’s took part in the 100 mile event. Any event of such an epic scale is likely to encounter some form of incident, as one would expect. There were at least five incidents, including two major accidents, resulting in the need to use air ambulances to take seriously injured riders to hospital. One of the two riders involved, regrettably passed away on Monday, the day after the event. Both Raj and I would like to take this opportunity to pass our sincere condolences to the friends and family of Robin Chard, who, regrettably passed away doing something that he loved.

We never intended to have a serious race in this event, or any event, as we fully understand the consequences of riding on the roads without due consideration for one’s own safety. For those of you who have read our challenge, please do understand that riding a bike is great fun but it is important to set your safety limits and boundaries beforehand.

Having said that, we wanted to establish a winner, and we both believe that we have succeeded in doing so.

So, it gives both Raj and I great pleasure in announcing that the winner of our latest challenge, Prudential ride
London 2016. The winner is Moorfields Eye Charity. With the help of all of you, we have managed to raise £3,500.68 so far (excluding any gift aid that the charity will get).

As far as our timings are concerned, having travelled close to 100 miles together on open roads without communication from anyone else, we have both learnt that our timings are not relevant. We started the event, we supported each other when it was needed, and we finished the event in style together. We also collected our medals as a momentum of our achievements. The power of the youth encouraged the experienced and the wealth of the experienced advised the youth.

For the future, if any of you would like to join us, then please do let either one of us know as we would be delighted to organise a larger team for future events.

Finally, once again both Raj and I would like to thank all those who have sponsored us and all those who are about to sponsor us for this wonderful cause. Please give generously so that, together, we can reach £4,000 for this wonderful cause and ensure that everyone
has the opportunity of sight into the future.

Best wishes

Kiran Patel

The relationship....

Raj Patel and Kiran Patel are brother in laws. Both linked to each other by a mutual connection with a wonderfully beautiful lady by the name of Sadhana Patel. Sadhana is Raj's sister and Kiran's wife. That's the connection...

The background....

Raj Patel is (even though he will not admit it) the most annoying competitive person one will ever have the pleasure of meeting. Anything he does, starts with the statement "This is not a competition" and ends up a race to the end. Whether its running, cycling or eating porridge. He has to try and be the winner. Raj will be celebrating his 40th Birthday in September this year!!

Kiran Patel has never considered himself as a fast sporty person. He sets his pace and sticks to it. He takes the view that you can go ahead and be the winner if that is what gives you a kick! No records to be broken here. Kiran will reach a ripe old age of 52 in September this year.

The Challenge....

To complete an epic journey of 100 miles in the London-Surrey 100 mile sportive taking place on 31 July 2016.

Leading up to this will be 1,000's of miles of tarmac being covered with 100's of hours of sore saddle riding.

Is it a race? You may ask...The Answer...It started out as "No" but has ended up as "Of Course  its a race!"

The Bets Are On....

We, Raj & Kiran are desperately looking for backers, who will win? Will it be the younger, more dynamically competitive Raj Patel Or the older, (a little more) experienced and certainly more rounded Kiran Patel?

Your Contribution.....

Who is your money on? To show your support, please make a donation to the wonderful Moorfields Eye Charity and tell everyone who you will be backing. Raj Patel or Kiran Patel by completing your message with "RP" or "KP".

The Winner....

The winner will be announced soon after the event. But we are both convinced that one target will be achieved with your help.. The fundraising challenge. We intend to raise at least £1,500 for Moorfields Eye Charity to help them to raise money to help the hospital to provide the best possible care for its patients, educate the researchers and clinicians of tomorrow and support leading-edge research that aims to develop new and pioneering treatments for blinding diseases.

Thank you again for visiting our Fundraising Page.

Please give generously
