A young woman referred her grandmother to the food pantry. A few years later when she suddenly found herself a single parent, she turned to SHIM when she needed assistance of her own. She attended pantry regularly to pick up groceries for herself and her children while working to get re-established in her career field. She engaged in other SHIM activities as well, attending financial literacy workshops and family engagement nights.
SHIM programs make a significant impact on families. SHIM is working with volunteers, donors, and partners to reduce the devastating effects of suburban poverty among the working poor, unemployed, families, single parents, senior citizens, women, and the growing number of refugee families from around the world.
Neighbors like you can help individuals and families meet basic needs, achieve self-sufficiency and build community. You can make a difference in the lives of 7,500 individuals when you donate to SHIM.
