Story

Matthew and I are running the Abingdon marathon on the 19th October to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. Since running a half marathon together in 2010 we have talked about running a marathon and this year we decided to take the plunge!

We are once again raising money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. As many of you will know this charity is especially important to our family and anything you can give will help us around the 26.2 miles. Thank you!

A few words from Matthew...

It seemed like a good idea back on a February evening to sign up for this - it was ages away and couldn't be that hard. There were also only three places left so not much time to think through the consequences! Training has built up gradually over the intervening months but it now seems I do little else except working, sleeping and running!

I have been aiming for a time around four hours but a recent injury may have impacted on that. Just getting around what will be my first (and only!) marathon will be enough of an achievement for me!

A few words from me ...

My training did not start well with breaking my toe and inflaming my ribs coughing in week one. Luckily it has improved since then! I have manged the niggles which have afflicted my right leg and I have only missed a few runs (so far!) Wilf has accompanied me on the vast majority of my training runs. He is the best coach and shouts in excitement when I run quickly!  On the day I am hoping to finish within 4hrs 45mins.

Running has played a huge part in my life for the last five years. From being very overweight and not being able to run to the end of the road, to running a 10km six months later, a half marathon the year after that and hopefully 26.2 miles in a few weeks, I am amazed at what I have achieved. Since having Wilf the last 18 months have been roller-coaster ride where there have only been two constants - Rob and running. I am unbelievably lucky to have the most amazing husband and the health to challenge myself to raise money for this worthwhile charity.
