Cycle from San Francisco to Boston · 22 April 2014

Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is the world's leading medical humanitarian aid organisation. We work in over 70 countries - in conflict zones, natural disasters and epidemics. We are independent, neutral and impartial. We provide medical care where it's needed most.

Story

I'm posting updates from my epic US/Europe cycle rides on Twitter at @RTWbike.

In 2014 and 2015 I followed the 1884 and 1885 routes of Thomas Stevens - the first person to cycle around the world - from San Francisco to Boston (4192 miles) and from Liverpool to Istanbul (2900 miles). In 2017 I'm taking on an even bigger challenge; cycling from Kirkenes, Norway (near the Russian border) to Nordkapp (most northerly point in Europe) to Tarifa, Spain (most southerly) following the Atlantic coast of Europe. I'll be travelling through Norway, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Wales, England, France, Spain, Portugal and Spain (again). The trip will be heading towards 6000 miles so will be my biggest yet.

I'm paying for the trip myself and trying to keep my costs down. If I keep under my own daily target, I'll be donating the difference to MSF as I did after reaching Istanbul.

Your donation goes directly to MSF (Doctors Without Borders) to support the work they do. JustGiving take 5% in administration for running the website and processing payments so, if you pay income tax in the UK, please make sure to GiftAid your donation.

I'll try to keep my blog updated at http://www.strudel.org.uk/RTWbike/blog/
