SOAS and City University Relief Society are fundraising throughout the year for The Fresh Start Project and aim to impact as many lives around the world!

Story

I'm walking 80km across Iraq to help some of the most vulnerable people in East Africa get a fresh start. SOAS and City University Relief Societies, are teaming up with The Who is Hussain Foundation to fund water facilities in Kinshasa, rehabilitation to street children in Mombasa and cataract operations to patients in Mbeya. I humbly request you sponsor me with your generous donations.

For our inaugural event, the SOAS Relief Society (SOAS RSOC) & City University  Relief Society (CITY RSOC)is proud to announce that we are raising funds in tandem for three incredible projects in Africa. In collaboration with The Who is Hussain Foundation, we aim to raise £35,000 by the end of the academic year, to increase awareness and help local African communities sustainably prosper.

These projects will focus on establishing societal and medical necessities in three different locations in need: Mombasa (Kenya), Mbeya (Tanzania) and Kinshasa (Congo).

1. Mombasa (£12,700): focusing on street child rehabilitation and placement into orphanages. SOAS RSOC has committed to housing 21 children into orphanages where they will be provided with basic needs such as food, clothing, education, therapy etc.

2. Mbeya (£7,650): seeking to establish a medical eye camp that specialises in cataract eye surgery. The lives of up to 90 people with eye damage will be transformed. The medical camp would ensure optimum patient care as well as provide post-surgery follow-ups.

3. Kinshasa (£14,650): the construction of two water facilities capable of providing a community of 2,000 people with clean water for the next 10 years.

All the funds raised for these causes will be used entirely towards serving the beneficiaries, and any funds raised above the target will be allocated to one of the projects where it is found most beneficial. SOAS & City University RSOC aims to try and make basic human necessities accessible to as many communities as possible. This can only happen with your support and donations; we encourage you to help make a difference and hopefully we can achieve a positive change together.

With the help of The Who Is Hussain Foundation, we hope to visit the various camps and projects in these regions to personally distribute the money raised and help as much as we can whilst we are there. Who is Hussain is a global charity seeking to create compassionate communities inspired by the legacy and values of Hussain Ibn Ali. The SOAS & City University RSOCs have partnered up with them to contribute to their charitable initiatives and create a positive impact.

We thank you in advance for your generous donations!

Every donation makes a difference. Together let's make a change.
